Next Century Cities Named 2018 Local Internet Choice National Organization of the Year

Executive Director Deb Socia accepts the 2018 Local Internet Choice National Organization of the Year award on behalf of Next Century Cities

The Coalition for Local Internet Choice (CLIC) presented Next Century Cities the 2018 Local Internet Choice National Organization of the Year award this week at the Broadband Communities Summit in Austin, Texas.

Next Century Cities is proud to support local internet choice through a variety of actions. Recently, Next Century Cities sent a letter signed by 36 local elected officials to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in defense of local decision-making around 5G investments, small cell deployment, and the use of public rights-of-way. The letter pushed back on the narrative that local leaders are a barrier to small cell deployment, instead calling for collaboration between industry and municipalities.

Next Century Cities also released new research this spring that supports collaboration and local decision-making.

“Local communities are great at solving problems. Next Century Cities supports creative, local solutions to connectivity – and that looks different in every community,” said Executive Director Deb Socia.

Next Century Cities is continuously working to encourage municipal-friendly policies and legislation. Read more about our work here.

Thank you, CLIC!
