Next Century Cities Discusses How Digital Equity Programs Could Benefit Hawaii Residents

Since 2008, Bytemarks Cafe has used Hawaii public radio to educate residents on science, technology, and innovation. The host, Burt Lum, is also the State of Hawaii’s Strategy Officer for the Hawaii Broadband Initiative which is dedicated to bringing robust, resilient broadband connectivity within reach for every resident.

Next Century Cities’ Executive Director was invited to join Episode #626 to discuss digital equity, digital inclusion, and why the US needs to rethink its policy of digital access. As local officials in Hawaii consider ways to implement digital equity programs, Francella reiterated the importance of identifying specific digital equity goals that community members can use to measure progress and having community partnerships in place to support the evolving requirements of digital literacy.
